The Emerson/Motorola MVME6100 VME single board computer is the first VMEbus single board computer (SBC) interface chip designed using Tundra Tsi148 VMEbus, providing 2eSST VMEbus performance. The 2eSST (Dual Edge Source Synchronous Transmission) protocol results in VMEbus running at an actual bandwidth of 320MB/s in most cases. The 2eSST protocol has been in existence for some time (the draft trial standard was released in 1999 and published as an ANSI standard in 2003), but so far, the 2eSST board cannot work on the standard VMEbus backplane due to the existing VMEbus transceivers. Unable to support the required VMEbus 2eSST signaling speed. Texas Instruments has developed a new combination of VMEbus transceivers that support the VMEbus signal switching speed required by the 2eSST protocol. The new Texas Instruments VMEbus transceivers and Tsi148 VMEbus traditional protocol support allow users to integrate the MVME6100 series into existing infrastructure, providing backward compatibility.
