The Emerson/Motorola MVME3100 series VMEbus single board computers can help OEMs of industrial, medical, and defense/aerospace VMEbus platforms increase performance and functionality, thereby gaining a competitive advantage while still protecting basic investments in VMEbus and related technologies. Customers can retain their VMEbus infrastructure (chassis, backplane, and other VMEbus and PMC boards) while improving performance and extending their lifecycle. In addition, the extended lifecycle of Emerson/Motorola computing products helps reduce development and support work caused by frequent product changes.
This MVME3100 is one of the first VMEbus products to adopt on chip system MPC8540 processors, providing VMEbus customers with a growth path for previous generation VME applications, especially MPC8240 and similar (MPC603 series) processors. On chip system implementation provides power/cooling, reliability, and lifecycle advantages that are typically not present in alternative architectures. The combination of faster processors and 2eSST VMEbus interface (same as MVME6100) provides significant performance improvements.
The new cost-effective peripherals can be easily integrated using USB and serial ATA interfaces. Compared to older SCSI technologies, SATA has significant cost reduction opportunities, and drive prices are typically lower for the same capacity.
